Frequently Asked Questions
What is iPhone unlocking?
Many mobile phone carriers overseas “lock” their phones so they can only be used on their own mobile phone network. The process of unlocking refers to removing this lock from the phone itself, allowing you to use it freely on any carrier of your choice, worldwide. On the iPhone, you may receive a “SIM card not valid”, “Activation Required” message or simply “No Service” when you change SIM cards or plug in to your computer. Many phones sold on sites like TradeMe or eBay have originated overseas and frequently re-lock themselves after you perform a software update. It is completely legal, does not void your warranty and does not require hacking the phone like some other “unlocks” out there so you can rest assured your iPhone is safe.

When your phone has been unlocked by The Core you will be able to use it with any compatible SIM card worldwide. This includes all New Zealand mobile phone operators, such as Vodafone, Telecom, and 2degrees. All you need to do is pop your SIM card in and go!
